CIP is a web interface that integrates two important information sources into one easy to use interface. The first important source is a climate database that stores and manages queries to a large suite of observational climate data as well as projections of future climate. The second important source of information is an extensive collection of guidance documentation that facilitates the best use of the climate data, it's interpretation and, importantly, resultant actions.

Freely available climate and climate-related data is essential to catalyze the changes in policies, investments and technologies that will be needed if we are to move towards a climate-smart future. The Climate Change Knowledge Portal is a central hub of information, data and reports about climate change around the world. With this portal you can query, map, compare, chart and summarize key climate and climate-related information. Open data: all of the climate data featured on the Climate Change Knowledge Portal has been published as open data resources.

Sixty-one country-level climate data summaries address the climate change information gap for developing countries using existing climate data to generate a series of climate observations and multi-model projections made available through the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP3). Each country report contains maps and diagrams demonstrating observed and projected climates as country averages as well as changes on a 2.5° grid. A narrative summarises the data in the figures, placing it in the context of the country's general climate.
