In year 3 of its operations, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s (UNFCCC) Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) reports that demand for technology transfer in support of achieving countries' national commitments is growing rapidly.
The Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC) is an entity that supports the UNEP’s International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC), based in Japan. GEC is dedicated to the transfer of environmentally sound technologies, in both developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The foundation aims to contribute to Japan’s international efforts on the environment, sharing project collaborations as well as promoting Japan’s rich conservation knowledge and experience in developing nations.
Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) apply information and communication technologies to vehicles and to transport infrastructure. This may increase the reliability, safety, efficiency and quality of transport systems. An increase in the efficiency of the transport system usually also leads to a reduction in associated GHG emissions. Some ITS applications are already being used in traveller information systems and electronic road pricing.
