El Salvador

The objective of this consultancy is to explore climate change impacts on food supply and security as well as on hazards that threaten subsistence farmers in El Salvador. The GWU Capstone Team (team) was tasked with conducting a field study on the perception of a group of subsistence farmers on climate change and hazards, and perceived impacts on living conditions–-with particular attention to vulnerable groups such as women.

The document is a climate assessment conducted for the Intersectoral Program on Food and Nutrition Security (ISAN), and is divided into two parts: (1) analysis of potential risks to achieving the objectives outlined in ISAN, considering climate change impacts, and (2) identification of potential adjustments or adaptation measures that could be implemented to reduce the risks from climate change.

The purpose of this research was to develop, in conjunction with local stakeholders, a strategy on adaptation to climate change, based on an integrated assessment of the factors that determine the current climate vulnerability and future climate change in the territory located in the coastal plain in central El Salvador, between the towns of Zacatecoluca, Jiquilisco and Tecoluca.

Document part of the 'Integration risks and opportunities of climate change into national development and programming in United Nations countries' Project. It presents a brief account of the country's vulnerability in the coastal and rural areas, as well as in the agriculture, health and energy sectors, including the impact on water resources and ecosystems.

The ABC of climate change in El Salvador is a publication prepared under the initiative of the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP) in El Salvador in order to have a tool for dissemination and awareness about the serious problem of climate change. This Report summarizes the proceedings of the El Salvador conference on strategies for adapting public and private infrastructure to climate change held in San Salvador on 30 June 2010. It also outlines the multiple development benefits of climate proofing infrastructure and the importance of conducting such an exercise within a broader territorial approach. While these Proceedings address the specific context of El Salvador, the methodologies outlined can be applied to a wide range of situations.

El Salvador y la región centroamericana en general, apuntan hacia una expansión en la producción de agrocombustibles, reforzando el interés de posicionarse en mercados emergentes vinculados con la reducción de emisiones de carbono, bajo una nueva generación de acciones de mitigación del cambio climático. La inserción en el mercado de agrocombustibles aparece como una oportunidad inmediata y atractiva para reactivar la producción agrícola, generar nuevos empleos y combatir la pobreza rural mientras que se mejora el ambiente.

This Country Note briefly summarizes information relevant to both climate change and agriculture1 in El Salvador, with focus on policy developments (including action plans and programs) and institutional make-up.

Children and young people are commonly treated in the climate change and disasters litera- ture as victims of natural events requiring protection by adults. This article critiques that narrative, drawing on examples from the Philippines and El Salvador that explore how chil- dren’s groups have responded to such issues through child-centred initiatives.
