Disease surveillance systems

Taru Leading Edge is one of South Asia’s most experienced disaster management  agencies, having undertaken multiple assessment, appraisal, design, implementation and monitoring assignments across the risk and vulnerability, urban and rural development.

Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) is a decentralized, state based surveillance program in the country. It is intended to detect early warning signals of impending outbreaks and help initiate an effective response in a timely manner. It is also expected to provide essential data to monitor progress of on-going disease control program and help allocate health resources more efficiently. The course of an epidemic is dependent on how early the outbreak is identified and how effectively specific control measures are applied.

The Pacific Community SPC is the principal scientific  and technical organization  in the Pacific region,  supporting development since 1947. SPC is an international development organization owned and governed by 26 country and territory members. SPC works for the well-being of Pacific people through the effective and innovative application of science and knowledge, guided by a deep understanding of Pacific island contexts and cultures.

An Environmental Information System (EIS) aims to respond to decision-makers’ needs for information on the evolution of the environment, and its impact on people’s lives and the natural resources on which they depend.

Il existe en Côte d’Ivoire des systèmes d’informations déjà existants dans certains domaines de l’environnement. Il est indispensable que le projet SIE les intègre et prenne en compte les recommandations des divers partenaires nationaux qui connaissent les réalités et les challenges dans la collecte de toutes ces données environnementales.

To encourage investment in climate adaptation projects, The Higher Ground Foundation created the Vulnerability Reduction Credit, or VRC^TM an economic measure of the effects of projects in reducing climate change vulnerability.

IRD - Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (Research Institute for Development) - is a research organization based in France that is working with its partners in the South to address international development issues. Improving health, understanding social changes, and protecting the environment are the main pillars of its work towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). IRD work includes interdisciplinary scientific research, capacity building and nurturing innovation in more than fifty countries worldwide. 

As part of its technology transfer in Cote D’Ivoire, the CTCN helped to design and set-up an environmental information system with a focus on climate change. The system will monitor and evaluate national promotion policies for energy efficiency and renewable energy within industrial and transport sectors that are adapted to the needs of key stakeholders.

Climate change is affecting human health and wellbeing, particularly in the emergence and spread of diseases.
