2016 CTCN Progress Report launched. Developing country trends in climate technology transfer needs presented.

In year 3 of its operations, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s (UNFCCC) Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) reports that demand for technology transfer in support of achieving countries' national commitments is growing rapidly. 

Climate experts from Central Asia and Eastern Europe met in Tbilisi to discuss collaboration and technology transfer. Representatives from government, private sector, finance and research institutions gathered in Tbilisi, Georgia, 30 May – 1 June. The Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia Ms. Ekaterine Grigalava welcomed the participants.

During COP22, the Centre shared details on its progress and trends in technology transfer in terms of bridging gaps between countries' technology planning and the innovators and financiers implementing technology solutions.

The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) is mandated by the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC to promote the accelerated development and transfer of climate technologies at the request of developing countries for energy-efficient, low-carbon and climate-resilient development together with partners.

The City of Banja Luka has requested the technical assistance of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) in order to evaluate options for rehabilitating and modernizing the district heating (DH) system. Banja Luka is the second largest DH system in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). It experiences significant energy losses (in large part due to hot water leakages and heat losses) during transmission and end-use, thereby incurring major avoidable costs to the City and the publicly owned Company, while also producing unnecessarily high amounts of greenhouse gas emissions.   

The Climate Technology Centre and Network is accountable to the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the UNFCCC through the CTCN Advisory Board. The Advisory Board meets twice per year and provides direction on the CTCN’s fulfillment of the COP’s guidance.

The Eighth meeting of the Advisory Board will take place at UN City (Auditorium 3) in Copenhagen from 23-25 August 2016.

The 193 individual country profiles capture the status and progress of all UN Member States, and the 80+ indicators include a wealth of information on child, adolescent and adult anthropometry and nutritional status, in addition to intervention coverage, food supply, economics, and demography. This tool is particularly useful for nutrition champions at the country-level, as it presents a wide range of evidence needed to assess country progress in improving nutrition and nutrition-related outcomes.
