The 2022-2023 CTCN Progress Report showcases how developing countries have harnessed the power of technology to forge their own path toward a sustainable future. During the reporting period, CTCN supported more than 75 countries and enhanced capacity building for climate technology development and transfer across the five systems’ transformation areas.

Small communities are often the most severely affected, yet the least equipped to cope with the impacts of climate change. In recognition of this, the UNDP-GEF Community-Based Adaptation (CBA) project pilots the community component of the GEF Strategic Priority on Adaptation, building the resilience of communities and the ecosystems upon which they rely in the face of climate change impacts. Key features of the programme include:

Forests play an important role in both adaptation and mitigation, as they provide local ecosystem services relevant for adaptation as well as the global ecosystem service of carbon sequestration, relevant for mitigation. Consequently, just as there are synergies and trade-offs between global and local ecosystem services, there are synergies and trade-offs between mitigation and adaptation: mitigation projects can facilitate or hinder local people"s efforts to adapt to climate change, and adaptation projects can affect ecosystems and their potential to sequester carbon.

Agriculture and water resources are two strategic sectors vulnerable to climate change and climate variability in Central America. The integration of soil and water conservation (SWC) techniques into small-scale hillside farming systems has been considered in recent strategies of adaptation. Several SWC techniques have been adopted by small-scale hillside farmers. The most frequently adopted techniques are those involving biomass management. Crop residue management, no-slash-and-burn and living hedgerows of several plant species are some examples.

Environmental Research Institute (ERI) is a flagship Institute for Environmental, Marine and Energy research in Ireland. The ERI has over 300 researchers working in interdisciplinary and currently has 45 live research projects focused on climate mitigation, adaptation and understanding. Focus areas include energy modelling, marine renewables, biofuels, energy efficiency, climate adaptation platforms, modelling greenhouse gas fluxes, atmospheric chemistry and carbon liabilities.

Communities in the company of institutions both governmental and non-governmental organizations have begun to implement adaptation measures. These and other adaptation measures were documented by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources across National Program of Climate Change under the project "Capacity Building for Phase II of Adaptation to Climate Change in Central America, Mexico and Cuba". This Publication is thanks to the support of the Netherlands Climate Assistance Programme (NCAP).

there are several initiatives to promote adaptation to climate change among coffee producers in Central America and at least two in Guatemala, these currently concentrate on development of adaptation plans and promoting sustainable production practices. It is considered that more scientific research is required to develop adaptation technologies Mitigation of the impacts to climate change can be divided into reducing the contribution to climate change from green house gas emissions - primarily as result of nitrogen fertilizer use - or reducing the carbon footprint from coffee production.

This interactive map of 51 climate risk and adaptation profiles offers a platform to guide access, synthesis and analysis of relevant country data and information for disaster risk reduction and adaptation to climate change. The profiles aim to provide a quick reference for development practitioners so that they can better integrate climate resilience in development planning and operations.

Due to the rising temperatures, population, urbanization and economic growth, the demand of cooling and air conditioning is steadily increasing. The “Green Cooling Network” was established in order to promote a dialogue between stakeholders from industries, policy, research and non-governmental organizations. The project aims to implement the Cancun decisions to build efficient processes and structures that serve to accelerate the technology transfer for mitigation and adaptation in developing countries.
