Climate ADAPT
Type:PublicationPublication date:Objective:Sectors:The European Climate Adaptation Platform (Climate-ADAPT) aims to support Europe in adapting to climate change . It is an initiative of the European Commission and helps users to access and share information on:
Expected climate change in Europe
Current and future vulnerability of regions and sectors
National and transnational adaptation strategies
Adaptation case studies and potential adaptation options
Tools that support adaptation planningQUICKScan
Type:PublicationPublication date:Objective:Sectors:Policy making is required in cases in which a public good needs to be either maintained or created, and private or civil initiatives cannot deal alone with this. Policy making thus starts with a phase of problem identification and determining whether there is a problem that needs to be dealt with. Rapidly evolving contexts exert influence on policy makers who have to take decisions much faster and more accurately than in the past, also facing greater complexity. There is a need for a method that lowers the lead time of the exploratory phase of the policy cycle.
Drought Risk Reduction Framework and Practices: Contributing to the Implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action
Type:PublicationPublication date:Objective:Sectors:This document elaborates a framework for understanding drought and vulnerability to drought and provides guidance on actions to reduce the risks associated with drought. It discusses drought policy and governance, risk identification and early warning, awareness and knowledge management and effective mitigation and preparedness measures. These framework elements are illustrated with practical examples, techniques and extensive background information.
Innovative approach to mine water decontamination
Type:PublicationPublication date:Objective:Sectors:Ramboll Environ developed an innovative, sustainable and economically beneficial approach to addressing the impact of metal contamination on river sediments in the River Nent in Cumbria.
Climate change adaptation technologies for water: a practitioner’s guide to adaptation technologies for increased water sector resilience
Type:PublicationPublication date:Objective:Sectors:This guide aims to help address this challenge by providing the missing identification and evaluation assistance that those looking for adaptation solutions initially face. More specifically, it focuses on adaptation technologies for building resilience to climate change induced hazards in the water sector.
Communicating Extreme Weather Event Attribution: Research from Kenya and India
Type:PublicationPublication date:Objective:Climate change attribution analysis assesses the likelihood that a particular extreme weather event has been made more or less likely as a result of anthropogenic climate change. Communication of extreme event attribution information in the immediate aftermath of an extreme event provides a window of opportunity to inform, educate, and affect a change in attitude or behaviour in order to mitigate or prepare for climate change.
Hydrological Zoning
Type:PublicationPublication date:Objective:Sectors:Hydrological zoning (or simply zoning) is an approach to divide land into different zones based on their hydrological properties. Typically, each type of zone has different land use and development regulations linked to it. This land and water management method aims to protect local water sources from risks of over-abstraction, land salinization, groundwater pollution and waterlogging by managing land use activities based on the assigned hydrological zones. For example, zones with a high groundwater table, large amounts of surface water (e.g.
National Monitoring Systems for Adaptation
Type:PublicationPublication date:Objective:In this report, we identify, analyse and compare international good practices in the design and implementation of national monitoring and evaluating indicator systems for climate change adaptation. This first chapter provides an introduction to the context and key terminology in the domain of climate change adaptation and indicators for M&E of adaptation. The second chapter discusses the existing approaches to M&E, while Chapter 3 provides a general overview of approaches to M&E Frameworks for Climate Change Adaptation.
Adapting Urban Water Systems to Climate Change
Type:PublicationPublication date:Objective:Sectors:This handbook illustrates some of the options that are available to cities to increase their abilities to adapt to climate change while at the same time increasing their overall sustainability and quality of life. The handbook details the main anticipated impacts of projected climatic variations on urban water systems and services. This handbook is aimed at local governments and utilities in cities of all sizes in both developed and developing countries.
