  • Renewable Energy Toolkit (REToolkit)

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Saturday, January 1, 2011
    Objective:

REToolkit provides a broad set of tools to assist bank staff and country counterparts in improving the design and implementation of renewable energy (RE) projects, incorporate best practices and lessons learned from RE projects supported by the World Bank Group and other institutions and is operationally oriented to address practical implementation needs at each stage in the RE project cycle.

  • Renewable Power Generation Costs in 2012: An Overview

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Tuesday, January 1, 2013
    Objective:

This report provides the most current, comprehensive analysis of the costs and performance of renewable power generation technologies available today. The results are largely based on new, original analysis of around 8,000 medium- to large-scale commissioned or proposed renewable power generation projects from a range of data sources. The analysis provides simple, clear metrics based on the latest reliable information, thereby helping to inform the current debate on renewable power generation and to assist governments and private sector investors in their decision-making.

  • SE4ALL Global Tracking Framework

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Tuesday, May 28, 2013
    Objective:

This report is the first of a series to monitor progress towards the three objectives of the Sustainable Energy for All initiative. It puts numbers to each objective, identifies what needs to change and outlines how progress can be made.

  • SF6 Emissions from Magnesium Production

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Saturday, January 1, 2000
    Objective:
    Sectors:

This report provides IPCC guidelines to countries on how to estimate and report to the UNFCCC in their SF6 emissions from magnesium in their greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories. The IPCC methodology calculates SF6 emissions by assuming that all SF6 used as a cover gas is emitted to the atmosphere. Emission calculations at the plant level are based on SF6 consumption measurement. At the national level, a key issue is to account for all possible uses within the industry in a country.

  • Technology and Innovation Report 2011: Powering Development with Renewable Energy Technologies

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Tuesday, January 11, 2011
    Objective:

The UNCTAD Technology and Innovation Report 2011 focuses on the important role of renewable energy technologies in responding to the dual challenge of reducing energy poverty while mitigating climate change. This is particularly timely as the global community prepares for the Rio+20 Conference next year. The Report identifies key capacity issues for developing countries and proposes concrete recommendations for the wider use of renewable energy technologies to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction.

  • Technology Roadmap: Solar Photovoltaic Energy

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Wednesday, September 10, 2014
    Objective:

    Key findings:

Since 2010, the world has added more solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity than in the previous four decades. Total global capacity overtook 150 gigawatts (GW) in early 2014

The geographical pattern of deployment is rapidly changing. While a few European countries, led by Germany and Italy, initiated large-scale PV development, since 2013, the People’s Republic of China has led the global PV market, followed by Japan and the United States

PV system prices have been divided by three in six years in most markets, while module prices have been divided by five

  • The Future of Water in African Cities: Why Waste Water?

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Friday, January 6, 2012
    Objective:

The overall goal of this report is to change the way urban policymakers in Africa and task team leaders from the World Bank think about urban water management, planning and project design. African cities are growing quickly, and their current water management systems cannot keep up with growing demand. It will take a concerted effort on the part of decision makers across sectors and institutions to find a way to provide sustainable water services to African city dwellers.
