    The Carbon Trust was incorporated in 2001. The organization conducts studies and research as they relate to Climate Innovation Centres, renewable energies, energy efficiency, and policy planning. Moreover, Carbon Trust works on reduction, resource efficiency strategies and commercialising low carbon technologies. They have both domestic and global profile some of which involved transferring experiences of industrialized countries to developing countries at both policy and enterprise level.

    Representing one-fifth of total global CO2 emissions currently, industrial sectors such as cement, iron and steel, chemicals and refining are expected to emit even more CO2 over the coming decades. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is currently the only large-scale mitigation option available to cut the emissions intensity of production by over 50 per cent in these sectors. To achieve decarbonisation goals, policymakers must pay more attention to industrial applications of CCS, while not undermining the global competitiveness of these sectors.

Climate scientists’ greatest concern is traditionally the urban heat island (UHI) effect – city areas where temperatures can be several degrees higher because there is lots of concrete and little blue or green infrastructure like lakes, rivers and parks. But another effect – air flow – can also cause serious health problems.

    Implementation of carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and storage (CCS) technologies for most industrial activities--for example, boilers, turbines, iron and steel furnaces and cement kilns--requires a capture step to convert a relatively dilute stream of CO2 to a higher concentration so as to allow economic transportation and storage. This report focuses on the role of high-purity CO2 sources in CCS demonstration and deployment. The roadmap will be a valuable resource to stakeholders, including policymakers and regulators, across the globe.

    Together, the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) form the Technology Mechanism of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.  Created in 2010, the TEC is the Mechanism’s policy arm. The TEC focuses on identifying policies that can accelerate the development and transfer of low-emission and climate resilient technologies.
