    Publication
    Publication date:
    Wednesday, January 1, 2014
    Objective:

The United Nations (UN) World Water Development Report, released each year with a focus on different strategic water issues, is the UN"s flagship report on water. It is a comprehensive review that gives an overall picture of the state of the world's freshwater resources and aims to provide decision makers with the tools to implement sustainable use of our water.

  • The Contribution of Biofuels to the Sustainability of Development in Latin America and the Caribbean: Elements for Formulating Public Policy

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Saturday, January 12, 2008
    Objective:

This report examines the other considerations that policymakers should take into account when making biofuels-friendly policies. These considerations include an analysis of the overall environmental impact of biofuels, poverty-reduction measures, labor market conditions and implications for agriculture and food security issues.

  • Technology and Innovation Report 2011: Powering Development with Renewable Energy Technologies

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Tuesday, January 11, 2011
    Objective:

The UNCTAD Technology and Innovation Report 2011 focuses on the important role of renewable energy technologies in responding to the dual challenge of reducing energy poverty while mitigating climate change. This is particularly timely as the global community prepares for the Rio+20 Conference next year. The Report identifies key capacity issues for developing countries and proposes concrete recommendations for the wider use of renewable energy technologies to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction.

  • Smallholder Irrigation Technology: Prospects For Sub-Saharan Africa

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Wednesday, January 3, 2001
    Objective:

This report is a review of irrigation technologies for smallholders in the context of improving rural livelihoods, especially in regards to the prospects for sub-Saharan Africa. The role of traditional technologies is evaluated and modern water distribution technologies, such as sprinkler and trickle irrigation, are reviewed. Low-cost irrigation systems, including such innovations as the use of treadle pumps and drip-kits are then examined.

  • SF6 Emissions from Magnesium Production

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Saturday, January 1, 2000
    Objective:
    Sectors:

This report provides IPCC guidelines to countries on how to estimate and report to the UNFCCC in their SF6 emissions from magnesium in their greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories. The IPCC methodology calculates SF6 emissions by assuming that all SF6 used as a cover gas is emitted to the atmosphere. Emission calculations at the plant level are based on SF6 consumption measurement. At the national level, a key issue is to account for all possible uses within the industry in a country.

  • SE4ALL Global Tracking Framework

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Tuesday, May 28, 2013
    Objective:

This report is the first of a series to monitor progress towards the three objectives of the Sustainable Energy for All initiative. It puts numbers to each objective, identifies what needs to change and outlines how progress can be made.

  • Renewable Power Generation Costs in 2012: An Overview

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Tuesday, January 1, 2013
    Objective:

This report provides the most current, comprehensive analysis of the costs and performance of renewable power generation technologies available today. The results are largely based on new, original analysis of around 8,000 medium- to large-scale commissioned or proposed renewable power generation projects from a range of data sources. The analysis provides simple, clear metrics based on the latest reliable information, thereby helping to inform the current debate on renewable power generation and to assist governments and private sector investors in their decision-making.

  • Renewable Energy Toolkit (REToolkit)

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Saturday, January 1, 2011
    Objective:

REToolkit provides a broad set of tools to assist bank staff and country counterparts in improving the design and implementation of renewable energy (RE) projects, incorporate best practices and lessons learned from RE projects supported by the World Bank Group and other institutions and is operationally oriented to address practical implementation needs at each stage in the RE project cycle.

  • Renewable Energy Technologies Cost Analysis Series: Hydropower

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Friday, January 6, 2012
    Objective:

Renewable energy technologies can help countries meet their policy goals for secure, reliable and affordable energy to expand electricity access and promote development. This paper on hydropower is part of a series on the cost and performance of renewable energy technologies produced by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The goal of these papers is to assist government decision-making and ensure that governments have access to up-to-date and reliable information on the costs and performance of renewable energy technologies.

  • Policies to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Industry--Successful Approaches and Lessons Learned: Workshop Report

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Wednesday, January 1, 2003
    Objective:
    Sectors:

The industry sector is an important direct and indirect source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Annex I countries. Emissions from the industry sector are expected to draw increasing attention by policymakers as they look for means to reduce domestic GHG emissions. For this reason, the Annex I Expert Group (AIXG) on the UNFCCC decided to hold a workshop in Berlin on 2-3 December 2002 to discuss the range of policies to reduce GHG emissions in industry, with a focus on voluntary approaches (VAs), taxes and trading.
