  • Report to the Muskoka 2010 G8 Summit: Carbon Capture and Storage - Progress and Next Steps

    Publication
    Publication date:
    Friday, January 1, 2010

At the 2008 Hokkaido Toyako Summit, the Group of Eight (G8) Leaders set a goal of broad deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS) by 2020 and made eight high-level recommendations to achieve this goal, namely (1) demonstrating carbon dioxide capture and storage, (2) taking concerted international action, (3) bridging the financial gap for demonstration, (4) creating value for carbon dioxide for commercialisation of CCS, (5) establishing legal and regulatory frameworks, (6) communicating with the public, (7) building infrastructure, and (8) retrofitting with CCS capture.

  • Power Generation from Coal: Measuring and Reporting Efficiency Performance and Carbon Dioxide Emissions

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Friday, January 1, 2010

This book explores how efficiency is measured and reported at coal-fired power plants. With many different methods used to express efficiency performance, it is often difficult to compare plants, even before accounting for any fixed constraints such as coal quality and cooling-water temperature. Practical guidelines are presented that allow the efficiency and emissions of any plant to be reported on a common basis and compared against best practice. A global database of plant performance is proposed, which would allow under-performing plants to be identified for improvement.

  • How Can Environmental Regulations Promote Clean Coal Technology Adoption in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Developing Economies

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Monday, May 1, 2006

This report assesses the experience of members within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) group implementing regulations to foster the deployment of clean coal technology in order to develop best practices. It contains an analysis of three types of regulations (air, water, and coal byproducts) in conjunction with three developing technologies (high-efficiency coal combustion, carbon dioxide capture and sequestration, and environmental controls).
