    Integrating electricity markets across regions is vital both for the integration of renewable energies and to control production and distribution costs. But cross-border electricity trade continues to be perceived as potentially risky to security of electricity supply. In response, this report suggests the need for strong co-ordination of electricity security regulatory frameworks across jurisdictions. Based on the experience of International Energy Agency (IEA) member countries, the authors identify two ways to integrate markets over wider geographic areas.

    This publication provides an overview of the activities and recent accomplishments of technology collaboration programmes (TCPs). The 39 TCPs in operation involve about 6,000 experts from government, industry and research organizations in 51 countries. Participants in TCPs have examined more than 1,900 energy-related topics in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, fossil fuels, fusion power and crosscutting issues.

    This online data base collects information on international climate mitigation initiatives in operation that (1) have potential to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, (2) are international in scope or have the potential for significant impact at global scale, and (3) are dialogues, formal multilateral processes or implementation initiatives. The information on the initiatives includes information about thematic focus, type of initiative, description, goal and activities, participant, and funders.

  • The Empirics of Enabling Investment and Innovation in Renewable Energy

    This working paper undertakes econometric analysis to assess the impacts of climate mitigation policies and the quality of the investment environment on investment and innovation in renewable power in OECD and G20 countries. It also assesses how countries’ investment environments interact with climate mitigation policies to influence investment and patent activity in renewable power.

    The World Bank and the International Finance Corporation provide the Global Solar Atlas—in addition to a series of global, regional and country GIS data layers and poster maps—to support the scale-up of solar power in their client countries. The primary aim of the atlas is to provide easy access to solar resource data globally.
