    With more than half the Earth’s population now living in urban areas, some changes in the indoor and outdoor climates of cities are bound to occur. Climate scientists’ greatest concern is traditionally the urban heat island (UHI) effect – city areas where temperatures can be several degrees higher because there is lots of concrete and little blue or green infrastructure like lakes, rivers and parks. But another effect – air flow – can also cause serious health problems.

    Australia, with the United Kingdom, led developed countries to deliver a roadmap to meeting the collective goal of mobilizing US$100 billion a year in climate finance for developing countries by 2020. The roadmap aims to provide increased predictability and transparency about how the goal will be reached, and it sets out the range of actions developed countries will take to meet it.

    Together, the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) form the Technology Mechanism of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.  Created in 2010, the TEC is the Mechanism’s policy arm. The TEC focuses on identifying policies that can accelerate the development and transfer of low-emission and climate resilient technologies.

    The ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC) was established in 2011 with the objective to promote cooperation of green growth in Europe and Asia, with a particular emphasis on enhancing eco-innovation of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in both regions. ASEIC's major programs include the ASEIC Eco-Innovation Consulting, Global Forum, ASEM Working Group, and ASEM Eco-Innovation Index (ASEI). ASEIC provides SMEs in developing countries with various advisory services including guidance for eco-friendly, innovative business practices.
