  • Guidelines for Climate Proofing Investment in the Energy Sector

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Saturday, January 5, 2013
    Objective:

These guidelines aim to present a step-by-step methodological approach to assist project teams to assess and incorporate climate change adaptation measures into energy investment projects. The technical note encompasses lessons learned and good practices identified through several completed and ongoing ADB energy projects.

  • International Carbon Flows: Aluminium

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Wednesday, January 5, 2011
    Objective:
    Sectors:

Approximately one-third (28 per cent) of aluminium emissions cross a border embodied in commodity aluminium. Half of this trade is contained within regions, and the other half between regions. The 10 largest inter-regional flows of carbon embodied in traded aluminium and other non-ferrous metals are illustrated above, with the most significant being from the CIS (ex-Soviet Union Commonwealth of Independent States) to Europe, China to the rest of Asia and Australia to Asia.

  • International Waters: Delivering Results

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Friday, January 6, 2012
    Objective:
    Sectors:

This publication catalogues activities of the joint International Waters Programme between the United Nations Development Program and the Global Environment Facilty. The programme has taken part in the preservation and restoration of international waters in all forms and has helped billions of people as a result of the efforts.

  • PFC Emissions from Aluminium Production

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Saturday, January 1, 2000
    Objective:
    Sectors:

This report provides guidance on how countries should estimate and report to the UNFCCC their PFC emissions from the primary aluminium production process, which is the largest anthropogenic source of emissions of two PFCs: CF4 and C2F6. Emissions of CF4 and C2F6, therefore, vary significantly from one aluminium smelter to the next, depending on pot technology and operating procedures. The IPCC guidelines recommend multiplying aluminium production by CF4 emission factor and C2F6 emission factor.

  • Planning and Design for Sustainable Urban Mobility

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Tuesday, January 1, 2013
    Objective:

This report highlights city transportation challenges, with a particular focus on developing countries, and showcases specific city examples to illustrate how to address such challenges. The report also discusses equitable access to urban mobility and transport poverty as well as economic, environmental, institutional and governance and social dimensions of mobility and transport.

  • Rainfall Shocks, Food Prices Vulnerability and Food Security: Evidence for Sub-Saharan African Countries

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Tuesday, January 10, 2012
    Objective:

This conference paper explores food market vulnerability and security as related to rainfall shocks across Sub-Saharan Africa by applying econometric methods across a wide range of developed and developing countries. The paper is focused on methods of improving access to affordable food supplies for developing countries during times of dire need.

  • SE4ALL Global Tracking Framework

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Tuesday, May 28, 2013
    Objective:

This report is the first of a series to monitor progress towards the three objectives of the Sustainable Energy for All initiative. It puts numbers to each objective, identifies what needs to change and outlines how progress can be made.

  • The United Nations World Water Development Report (WWDR)

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Wednesday, January 1, 2014
    Objective:

The United Nations (UN) World Water Development Report, released each year with a focus on different strategic water issues, is the UN"s flagship report on water. It is a comprehensive review that gives an overall picture of the state of the world's freshwater resources and aims to provide decision makers with the tools to implement sustainable use of our water.

  • Water and Climate Change: Understanding the Risks and Making Climate-Smart Investment Decisions

    Type:
    Publication
    Publication date:
    Sunday, January 11, 2009
    Objective:
    Sectors:

This report addresses the stress on and vulnerability of the water systems through use of reliability, resilience and robustness as the key indicators of sensitivity of water systems for climate-induced failure. Current practices in the sector are examined in order to better understand the state-of-the-science for incorporating current and future variability and change in hydrology and climate in the bank's portfolio for project planning and design.
