Background
Studies have found that as much as 40% of emissions in the city of Hanoi come from motor vehicles; motorcycles being the primary source. Electric two-wheelers (e-bikes) offer a potential solution to this air pollution problem.
Purpose
To create an innovative business model for recharging and servicing e-bikes in Hanoi that alleviates poverty among the poor and handicapped reduces CO2 emissions and is ready for up-scaling.

Publication dateObjectiveSectors
Nicaragua is an energy-poor and agriculture-dependent country. While the cattle and dairy sector is a dominating force among the country’s agricultural sectors, its productive output is remarkably low compared to that of neighbouring countries. Inefficient herding and farm management leads to hygiene issues, high loss of livestock and low production. Most small scale farmers lack access to modern energy. The sector is in dire need of productivity improvements to remain competitive in the region.

Nicaragua, one of Central America’s poorest countries, increasingly suffers from droughts and unstable weather conditions, hampering yields and output of smallholder farmers dependent on agriculture for livelihood. While only up to 10% of arable land is irrigated, Nicaragua requires sustainable solutions for the sector to tackle water scarcity, improve production and food security, and reduce GHG emissions from inefficient and poor farming practices.

Background
Extending reliable grid-based systems to sparsely populated areas is often not financially viable and this fact has proven a barrier to the electrification of parts of rural Vietnam. World Vision has already succeeded in establishing reliable community-driven networks for the distribution of energy efficient stoves in rural Africa and Latin America. This approach leveraged local community organisations to promote the interventions and required intensive government consultation and interface with all partners.
