Access to energy is a key driver of economic growth, yet many emerging market countries still face significant challenges in power generation and distribution, resulting in a population of over a billion people without access to electricity. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), providing electricity for all by 2030 would require an annual investment of USD 52 billion per year, more than double the current level being mobilized.

Description of the project: Sustaining the endangered ecosystem of lake Tonle Sap is a matter of survival for 8,000 Cambodians and of crucial regulation for the entire Mékong area. With an integrated approach targeting emissions reduction via fuel-efficient fish processing and women’s economic and social empowerment - via trainings to improve environmental knowledge, hygiene practices, packing, marketing, and pooling of sales, this project transforms traditional fish smoking methods that have become unsustainable into climate resilient livelihood activities.

In 2003 the Government of Thailand launched the Thai Energy Efficiency Revolving Fund (EERF) as part of its Energy Conservation Programme. The EERF works to overcome barriers within the Thai financial sector to stimulate adequate financing for energy efficiency and reduce the country's greenhouse gas emissions. This case study offers a sufficient background to the development of the EERF and provides an overview of the macroeconomic situation and the evolution of climate change policies in Thailand.

This summary outlines the Paradigm Project's commitment to placing at least 100,000 clean cookstoves in Guatemalan households over the next 10 years. Stoves are marketed and sold through local staff and community groups. Important elements of the program are provision of warranty servicing and financing mechanisms, community education, and evaluation and monitoring.
