World Energy Trilemma: Time to Get Real – The Case for Sustainable Energy Policy

In the first installment of a two part series, the World Energy Council aims to inform policymakers of the energy industry's opinions regarding the proper policy necessary to meet the energy “trilemma” of energy security, social equity, and environmental impact mitigation. The World Energy Council deems these three aspects of the energy system as the three dimensions of sustainability. Findings from numerous interviews with energy industry CEOs and senior executives point to three main recommendations: 1) design coherent and predictable energy policies, 2) support market conditions that attract long-term investment, and 3) encourage initiatives that foster research and development in all areas of energy technology.
