This working paper describes the potential synergies between the deployment of renewable energy technologies and improvements in energy efficiency and analyzes their contribution to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) objectives. The paper looks at three analyzes, the first two of which evaluate the extent to which renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency measures could contribute separately to meeting the SE4All objectives by 2030, without considering the synergies between them. The third analysis focuses on the importance of these synergies and tradeoffs. Finally, the paper answers several key policy questions.
