Researchers in this study put forward a budget-neutral approach for incentivising the adoption of solar pumps in India.

The study also looks at parity between solar and electric pumps from economic perspective, i.e. NPV (net present value) of the expenses to be incurred by the farmer.

It further explores mechanisms for promoting the deployment of solar pumps, and the need to assess the suitability of solar pumps in providing sustainable irrigation, before they are scaled up.

They conclude that exploring the context under which solar pumps would be technically, economically, operationally as well as environmentally sustainable would help different stakeholders identify and prioritise potential areas for deploying solar pumps through effective promotional policies and strategies.
