This paper summarises four national studies, examining and providing estimates of the costs of installing renewable and low-carbon electricity generation capacity. Specific sectors examined are: hydro, wind, and solar in China; solar in India; gas and small-scale hydro in Nigeria; and solar and wind in South Africa. The study points to the need for an investment partnership between public and private sectors with three equally-important key elements: using developed country public funds strategically, ensuring stable policies are in place in developing countries, and addressing incremental costs.
