This paper describes a range of specific, action-oriented recommendations for China's policymakers on how to grow a green bonds market in the country. The paper evaluates the state of play of China's bond market, explaining how financial reform may provide an opportunity for green bonds to emerge. It offers recommendations for developing definitions, standards and verification of green bonds. The paper offers a China-specific version for the bond market with the aim to enable companies, government and development banks to close the investment gap and address concerns such as transparency in the financial system.
