The Steel sector has published roadmaps on developing carbon-lean technologies, among which carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) plays a key role. In this particular context, the challenge for a roadmap is to take on board the true circumstances that prevail today and are likely to prevail in the distant foresight horizon of 2050. We will discuss the bridging status of the technology in mitigating climate change later in this document, but our point is that CCS cannot be seen as a bridging technology for the steel sector at any reasonable time horizon: it ought to be here to stay until the end of the century at least. A further point is related to the public acceptance of CCS.
