This publication reviews the activities of several United Nations and other agencies in the area of energy and sustainable development in Africa. It underscores the rapid changes that are taking place in the energy sector in Africa from the liberalization of the generation and distribution of electricity within new regulated frameworks to the promotion of energy access and the dissemination of renewable energy technologies for reliable and affordable energy supply.
