Sustainable public procurement aims to ensure government spending benefits a country environmentally and socially. By ensuring small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are included in the government supply chain, public procurement has the potential to achieve economic and social benefits, including the creation of skilled jobs, increased domestic tax revenue, and more robust domestic economic growth. Well-designed public procurement policies also have the potential to catalyze technical development, increasing trade margins and overall productivity. This report presents examples of innovation in public procurement in Mexico that encourage economic growth and access to finance for SMEs.
