Demand Response: Managing Electric Power Peak Load Shortages with Market Mechanisms

The paper provides an overview of the development of demand response programs in developed countries before detailing four typical types of programs. It then discusses new and emerging trends in demand response. The paper concludes by outlining potential demand response approaches that may be useful in China and suggesting ways that demand response programs could be funded sustainably.
