This brief complements Global Status of CCS: 2010, a report released by the Global CCS Institute in March 2011. Key messages of the issues brief are: 1) capacity is one precondition for rapid demonstration and commercial carbon capture and storage (CCS) deployment; 2) developing countries have a real need for continued capacity development if CO2 emission reduction targets are to be achieved; and 3) funding mechanisms have been established to support CCS capacity development in developing countries.
