This report describes the metric data needed to gauge progress and identify opportunities for improvement in building energy performance. The authors’ goal is to support energy efficiency in major economies. The focus of the report is on building energy use and metrics over the period of 2000 to 2012 for the sector as a whole, and for residential and services buildings separately. The data and analysis from this report may inform policy and technology-related action at the national level and in international fora.
