This report describes the relationship between biofuels and food security. It addresses how biofuel production and the policies used to support its development can relate—both positively and negatively—with each of the four dimensions of food security: availability, access, utilization (nutrition) and stability. The authors attempt to understand the relationship between the drivers of the rise of biofuels and the impacts on food security by making assumptions about various parameters, ranging from the role of bioenergy to the evolution of techniques and potential impacts at global and local levels.
