This report describes how countries have employed subsidies to increase the deployment of renewable energy technologies, and how these subsidies have been credited with a wide range of positive outcomes. The paper focuses on solar PV deployment-related subsidies in Germany and Spain to better inform debates about cost-effectiveness.
