The city of Linköping has established Ebbepark as a district for sustainable transformation, inviting partners to develop solutions to progress towards a climate-neutral city. The district of Ebbepark plays a key role in Linköping’s efforts to become a sustainable, climate-neutral city. The entire district is designated as a testbed that will be in constant change. The focus of the testing carried out in Ebbepark is sustainable solutions; environmentally, socially and economically. This includes strategies for increased recycling, smart energy solutions, charging stations for electric vehicles and much more.

<h2> Full-scale testing of new technology </h2>
The district offers new opportunities for full-scale testing of new ideas and technology. Companies, organisations and scientists can develop and trial their ideas and products at full scale, while benefiting from a district that encourages knowledge-sharing and productive collaboration with universities and businesses. Trials and checks can be conducted in certain buildings and apartments, at various workplaces and in public environments. The examples below demonstrate the wide variety of solutions.

<h2> From forests to green batteries </h2>
Ligna Energy is one of the companies developing their products in Ebbepark. They make green, cost-effective large-scale sustainable batteries for energy storage using organic electronic polymers and biopolymers based on forest products. The energy can be supplied from solar panels, which makes the energy completely fossil free.

On the subject of solar panels, Epishine is a pioneering company in this field. Epishine produces indoor solar cells that use ambient or indoor lighting to power Internet-of-Things (IoT) sensors and other wireless products.

<h2> HVO fuel on site </h2>
Energifabriken made transport fossil free in a matter of minutes when it replaced diesel with a tank of HVO100 fuel on its building site. The results after six months were astonishing: The use of HVO100 led to a reduction of almost 80 tons of CO2. Construction workers also save time and money by not having to drive to other filling stations.

<h2> Gym shower cuts water usage by 90% </h2>
A shower installed and used in the new gym cuts water consumption by up to 90% and 80% of energy demand for water heating. The product in question is a Space Shower, part of the next generation of energy-saving equipment that’s designed to cope with water scarcity.

<h2> Showcase and marketplace </h2>
All of these things combine to make Ebbepark a dynamic showcase and marketplace for sustainable solutions, attracting customers and other stakeholders from all over Sweden, as well as Europe and the rest of the world. All the building materials are listed and approved by the SundaHus application, a database that helps buyers choose environmentally friendly building materials, ensuring a safe and healthy indoor environment for those living and working in Ebbepark.

Ebbepark has also been the focus of the ‘A City Free of Interference’ research project at Linköping University. The project aims to demonstrate the benefits of visualising 3D scenarios for city planning, traffic planning and construction logistics during the development of the district.
