DCR Current Sensing Method for Adaptive Voltage Positioning in Coupled Inductor Voltage Regulators

The conventional current sensing method with sensing resistors produces additional losses and decreases the efficiency in the multiphase DC-DC converters with coupled inductors. A novel lossless current sensing method in multiphase DC-DC converters with coupled inductors is proposed. With this novel method the additional loss is saved and the efficiency of the DC-DC converter is increased which means a longer battery life in battery powered equipments and higher power density and lower cost of an equipment with multiphase DC-DC converters with coupled inductors. Experiment was conducted to verify the validity of the proposed lossless current sensing method.
