This report is a major outcome of the "WRITESHOP" held 21-24 February 2007 in Dakar, Senegal with its focus on adaptation measures required in response to climate variability and change for water management in West Africa.

Adapting water management and agricultural practices to climate variability is essential and requires integrated responses. This brief explores how countries can harness south-south and triangular cooperation for accelerating the exchange of adaptation technologies, knowledge and practices in the water and agriculture sectors. It also highlights challenges, best practices, lessons learned, and the roles of stakeholders in replicating and transferring such technologies.

The objective of the Fostering Agricultural Productivity Project for Mali is to increase the productivity of smallholder agricultural and agribusiness producers in the targeted production systems and project areas. There are three components to the project, the first component being technology transfer and service provision to agricultural producers. The component's objective is to foster the modernization of smallholder farming systems and supply chains through dissemination of improved technologies and practices, and through the professionalization of agricultural support services.
