In recognition of the fact that the largest cities of the world are the primary contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, the network has conducted research into the co-benefits of sustainable city projects, examining and evaluating case studies from around the world, and across different sectors.

    Energy efficient modes of transport - like Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, bicycles and electric taxis - are providing an effective means for reducing urban greenhouse gas emissions in Latin American cities. The transport sector is one of the largest contributors to global GHG emissions, both worldwide and in the Latin America region. In response, some cities in Latin America are taking steps to revamp their transport sectors as part of a strategy to mitigate GHG emissions.

    This paper is a product of CCAP"s Mitigation Action Implementation Network (MAIN). It presents analysis of barriers and critical enablers of Colombia"s Bus Rapid Tranist (BRT) systems. Many major cities in Colombia struggle with managing transportation issues arising from growing populations and vehicle use and the development of sustainable public transportation alternatives. Rapidly developing metropolises suffer from highly congested roadways, extreme air pollution and high rates of road-related accidents.

    Africa's renewable energy power potential is substantially larger than the current and projected power consumption of the continent. Local geothermal, solar thermal and bioenergy resources have an important role to play in covering future heat demand. Domestic biofuels and renewable energy-based electrification of urban public transport can contribute significantly to transport needs.

    This report studies the development of criteria for assessing the compatibility of financial investments with the international goal to limit global temperature increase to below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. The findings are intended as a starting point and a key input for a longer term process to develop consensus-based 2°C investing criteria. The focus here is placed on investments in projects and physical assets, in particular of development and climate finance organisations.

    In the absence of specific guidelines from the UNFCCC on how to develop NAMAs, implementing organizations, donors, and host countries have been formulating NAMAs in a trial-and-error basis. By extracting lessons from these experiences, the previous version of this guidebook introduced basic elements of NAMAs and also different approaches for NAMA-related decisions.

It has been developed based on interaction with city stakeholders, sector studies conducted to understand different dimensions of current situation, information from secondary literature, and through conduct of risk to resilience workshop. The City Resilience Strategy, is aimed at city managers and people at large. This document is based on the current situation and has a scope for updation to reflect emerging trends over time.
