This Technology Transfer Advances Thailand's
- Nationally Determined Contribution to "achieve climate-resilient and low-carbon growth in line with a sustainable development path by 2050".
A highly efficient use of energy is thus fundamental to limit GHG emissions. Yet, energy efficiency receives much less attention than the decarbonization of the energy supply.
The purpose of the project is to bridge knowledge gaps on issues such as energy efficiency, climate change impacts and policy instruments to foster adoption of cleaner and more efficient energy options. The focus would be on strengthening local institutions through verifiable energy efficiency achievements in the energy intensive small scale gray iron metal casting industrial cluster at Coimbatore.
Outputs
The Coimbatore District in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India is the site of an energy intensive cluster of more than 600 small-scale grey iron metal foundries which consume 180000 tons of coke and 600 million kWh of electricity a year. There is already a wider multi-agency project to facilitate general business development in the Coimbatore cluster but energy efficiency investments do not happen because there is little awareness of the available solutions on all sides and a lack of local EE service providers.
