This report presents an overview of the campaign “Disaster risk reduction begins at school” and the lessons learned from good practice in different countries affected by various natural and man-made disasters. Children are the most vulnerable age group during any disaster, especially those attending school, as school buildings are often destroyed. In keeping with the Hyogo Protocol and achieving the MDGs, the UN/ISDR secretariat and its partners made disaster risk education and safer school facilities the two critical themes of the 2006-2007 World Disaster Reduction Campaign.

Despite significant economic progress being made over recent years Bhutan remains a least developed nation with constraints and vulnerabilities adversely affecting its capacity to cope with climate change.The authors recognise that Bhutan’s vulnerability is heightened by low economic strength, inadequate infrastructure, lack of institutional capacity and an agro-based rural economy. It identifies adaptation options available to each source of energy generation as well as for the distribution and end use of electrical energy. The report focuses on electric power generation, its transmission, and its distribution. A second publication, "Guidelines for Climate Proofing Investments in the Electric Power Sector", provides a systematic project-level approach for assessing climate risk and climate-proofing investments in the sector.
