The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is implementing a Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded project entitled “Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emission in Industrial Sector through Pelletization Technology in Lao PDR” in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Ministry of Science and Technology Lao PDR. The goal of the project is to promote the production and usage of industrial grade solid bio-fuel (pellets) for replacing coal and wood.

International experts will meet in Bonn, Germany, to identify policies that can support countries in accelerating the deployment of technologies for reducing greenhouse gases and adapting to climate change – from LED Lighting to climate-smart agriculture.
Once identified, the policies will be presented to governments during the UN Climate Change Conference in November this year.

Technology is a critical pillar needed for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to combat the damaging effects of climate change. And, Minister of the Environment and Drainage, Dr. Denis Lowe, has made it clear that technological integration was a fundamental component of all efforts to respond to climate change. Speaking during a three-day Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) Training workshop for National Designated Entities at the Radisson Aquatica Resort on Tuesday, Dr. Lowe said such thinking applied to efforts at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation efforts.
