    Global Youth Video Competition on Climate Change. The deadline for entries to the competition is 30 August 2016, with people between the ages of 18 and 30 eligible to participate.

    The competition, which is being run by Television for the Environment (tve) and is part of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Action for Climate Empowerment and Momentum for Change initiatives, will culminate in a high-profile awards ceremony at COP 22 Marrakech.

    The Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN) provides guidance in areas such as economic feasibility, project structure, investment and financing, preparation of the business plan and introductions to investors. PFAN is one of few actors in this space addressing barriers to climate finance at the small and medium enterprises (SME) level in developing countries and emerging economies on demand and supply sides, i.e., shortage of bankable projects on the demand side and ability to assess risk and conservative lending culture on the supply side.

    The 193 individual country profiles capture the status and progress of all UN Member States, and the 80+ indicators include a wealth of information on child, adolescent and adult anthropometry and nutritional status, in addition to intervention coverage, food supply, economics, and demography. This tool is particularly useful for nutrition champions at the country-level, as it presents a wide range of evidence needed to assess country progress in improving nutrition and nutrition-related outcomes.

    This report synthesizes the results of studies conducted under an ADB technical assistance on the Regional Economics of Climate Change in South Asia Phase 1 (RECCSA 1) in five countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka). The studies estimated the likely growth of GHG emissions to 2030 under a scenario of expected energy-use mixes, including penetration of some clean technologies, and the impact of a climate policy in the form of a carbon tax to stabilize GHG production at an acceptable level.

    In accordance with Decisions 1/CP.19 and 1/CP.20, Maldives communicates that it intends to reduce unconditionally 10% of its Greenhouse Gases (below BAU) for the year 2030. The 10% reduction expressed above could be increased up to 24% in a conditional manner, in the context of sustainable development, supported and enabled by availability of financial resources, technology transfer and capacity building. The INDC also includes an Adaptation contirbution.

  • Expert views of climate change adaptation in least developed Asia

    Drawing primarily from original data collected from more than 100 semi-structured research interviews, this study discusses the benefits of four climate change adaptation projects being implemented in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia and the Maldives. The article describes ongoing adaptation efforts in each of these four countries and finds that projects enhance infrastructural resilience by building relevant, robust and flexible technologies. They build institutional resilience by creating strong, permanent, legitimate organisations in place to respond to climate change issues.

    The objective of the Environmental Management Project is to provide the Republic of Maldives with the capacity to effectively manage environmental risks and threats to fragile coral reefs as well as marine habitats resulting from tourism development, increased solid waste disposal, fisheries and global climate change. There are four components to the project. The first component is the regional solid waste management program. Solid waste is the most visible environmental threat to the tourism and fishery industries.
