An electric vehicle (EV), also referred to as an electric drive vehicle, uses one or more electric motors or traction motors for propulsion. An electric vehicle may be powered through a collector system by electricity from off-vehicle sources, or may be self-contained with a battery or generator to convert fuel to electricity. EVs include road and rail vehicles, surface and underwater vessels, electric aircraft and electric spacecraft.

This paper analyses the consequences of the Energy Efficient Act, which is foreseen to take effect in 2010. These new Brazilian MEPS are compatible with those implemented in other countries. The cost-benefit analysis, considered for different scenarios for industrial consumers, showed that motor substitution (from standard to high efficiency) is generally advantageous. A sample of 9,000 industrial motors has been used, with measured operation in actual conditions, to analyze the investment cost benefit in three different scenarios.

    Technology

Fans, pumps and compressors use electric motors to provide motion; therefore its energy consumption is strongly influenced by the efficiency of motor. According to IEC 60034-30, efficiency of motors are categorized as follows (IE stands for international efficiency).

  • Vehicle to Grid (V2G) involves using excess battery power from electric vehicles such as Battery Electric Vehicles and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles to help balance the load of localized power grid segments during peak hours. The storage in electric vehicles has not been used previously by the electric grid. There has never been any business that negotiates between grid operator power need and automobiles.

Background: Currently MnO2 is commonly coated onto current collectors to form very thin films with a thickness of ten to one-thousand nanometers in order to minimize the limitation of poor conductivity. Therefore the relative amount of MnO2 on current collector is always low and does not provide sufficient energy and power density.
