Passive chilled beams, KOOLAIR, model VPK, without supply air, are used for cooling in a room. As in all water conditioning systems, choosing passive chilled beam has the energy benefits of using water as a vehicle to carry the cooling power to the rooms. The type VPK passive chilled beam comprises a casing and a cooling coil with connection flanges.

Background: Controlling electricity utilization on utility grids is a major opportunity for reducing energy usage across large regions. This control is especially valuable when used to minimize peak energy demand. Air conditioning cooling systems in residential retail and commercial facilities are a large source of peak energy usage and therefore intelligently monitoring and controlling these AC systems would enable utilities and their customers to better manage energy demand during peak energy periods.

The Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) is seeking commercial partners interested in developing a half controlled rectifier that can deliver performance similar to that of a fully-rated three-phase pulse-width-modulated (PWM) rectifier while allowing the ratings of the switches and diodes to be reduced to half the rated power.

Background: In order to improve energy utilization and correspondingly lower energy use and cost there is growing interest in improving the intelligence of the electricity grid and in particular improving the intelligence of the vast infrastructure of power distribution cables. Technology Description: To address this need researchers at UC Berkeley have developed an innovative way to measure the applied operating voltage inside conventional AC high-voltage insulated power distribution cables.

Background: Distributed energy resources (DER) the combination of distributed power generators energy storage devices and renewable sources of energy are frequently located at customer sites where the energy resources are used. Small DER offer a promising alternative to meet the rapidly growing demand for more reliable power. When power demands spike individual DER units may respond by providing more energy to the system but may also cause problems with other DER units.

“Rectennas” are antennas that can receive radio signals and rectify them to generate electrical power for wireless power transfer. Potential applications for rectennas range from large-scale power transfer applications to small applications such as powering RFID tags or biomedical implants. The usefulness of rectennas is limited by the rectifying element which must convert the electromagnetic (AC) signal to a signal with a non-zero average (DC).

A collective water pumping system for domestic use and/or irrigation purposes in areas with no grid power or erratic supply of power from grid. An array of solar panels connected in series and parallel configuration generates the power and voltage required for the ATV312 Solar unit to drive the motor. The DC to AC frequency converter in the solar drive converts the DC voltage input to the drive to variable 3-phase AC voltage and frequency.

This invention develops a dynamic stochastic optimal power flow (DSOPF) control scheme to provide multi-objective optimal control capability to complex power systems. The DSOPF control may be implemented using nonlinear optimal control techniques including but not limited to the Adaptive Critic Designs and the model predictive control method. The invention provides a coordinated secondary AC power flow control solution to power systems with high penetration of intermittent renewable energy generation.
