Africa's renewable energy power potential is substantially larger than the current and projected power consumption of the continent. Local geothermal, solar thermal and bioenergy resources have an important role to play in covering future heat demand. Domestic biofuels and renewable energy-based electrification of urban public transport can contribute significantly to transport needs.

The technology provides significantly improved methods for converting biomass including woody biomass and spent pulping/fractionation liquors into highly deoxygenated fuels and chemicals. The feedstock is treated with an alkali formate which is then heated and distilled condensing the vapor product to form a pyrolysis oil that contains less than 30% oxygen by weight. Applications: Biofuels

Background: Carbon capture is a promising approach for the removal of excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in an attempt to prevent and reverse climate change. Current approaches toward capturing carbon are focused on the point of production specifically industrial and energy settings. However these methods consume high levels of energy while ignoring the other major sources of atmospheric carbon dioxide. This technology utilizes a granular sorbent material for binding atmospheric carbon dioxide.

A single screw gravity feeder is designed for low bulk density and low flow ability powdery biomass. The feeder is specifically designed to feed powdery biomass into high temperature systems such as gasifier and pyrolyzer. The performance of feeder with different biomass powders showed consistent results and smooth operation. Applications: Biofuels
