The report is intended to provide context and analysis for addressing agriculture in international climate negotiations, with the aim of helping to inform climate negotiators and other stakeholders by identifying options and unpacking issues of interest, and not to express opinions or be prescriptive in any way. The report will focus on agricultural production and food security, early action opportunities, trade, finance, technology transfer and capacity building and performance and benefits measurement.

Climate change will increase the gaps between developed and developing countries, in terms of wealth, health and food security. This will make achieving goals to reduce poverty more difficult.Poor people with few assets
cannot easily recover from climate disasters or change how they make their
living. They rely heavily on agriculture, fisheries, rivers and forests. These
resources could change drastically with climate change, making these groups
much more vulnerable than wealthier people. Additional factors, such as health problems

This report aims to present a step-by-step methodological approach to assist project teams to assess and incorporate climate change adaptation measures into agriculture, rural development and food security investment projects. The report focuses mainly on irrigation infrastructure projects and agriculture production projects.

The report seeks to provide a framework for approaching this challenge by establishing baselines of knowledge on climate impacts and plausible theories about how to build longer-term adaptive capacity and resilience. The specific objectives are to provide a critical synthesis of the evidence and future scenarios of climate change in the region by analyzing both the impacts of agriculture on climate change and the impacts climate change is projected to have on agriculture.

SMARTer2030 is the third instalment in the acclaimed GeSI series of SMART reports, demonstrating the enabling potential of ICT in eight different sectors (from buildings to energy, from transport to agriculture and healthcare), and how ICT solutions can support the transition to a low-carbon economy while delivering business opportunities and improving people's quality of life.

Building on the findings of the GeSI SMARTer2030 report, #SystemTransformation looks at how ICT will be instrumental in the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The report analyzes the current SDGs implementation gaps, identifies the key features that make ICT a fundamental tool to achieve the Goals, and provides a deep-dive into those Goals where the ICT contribution can be most immediate and important.
