The 2022-2023 CTCN Progress Report showcases how developing countries have harnessed the power of technology to forge their own path toward a sustainable future. During the reporting period, CTCN supported more than 75 countries and enhanced capacity building for climate technology development and transfer across the five systems’ transformation areas.
Africa is vulnerable to climate change on two fronts: firstly, because of existing vulnerabilities and secondly, due to capacity limitations for disaster mitigation and inability to adapt to climate change.
Nigeria is frequently affected by disasters as a result of natural processes. Three quarters of these are related to extreme weather and climate events, including droughts, floods, extreme temperatures, thunderstorms, and desertification. Changes in global climate patterns will have serious implications for Nigeria, as most socioeconomic activities are extremely sensitive to climate variability. In this regard, concerted efforts are being made to address the issue of current and abrupt climate change.
This comprehensive study provides an overview of the seriousness of climate change as related to food security and farming around the world. Authors provide a set of policy and technical options for mitigation of and adaptation to climate change in multiple scenarios.
Poor people living in hazardous and unhealthy environments in urban areas may find their difficulties compounded by the consequences of climate change. These include those who construct their shelters on steep, unstable hillsides, or along the foreshore on former mangrove swamps or tidal flats.
Mitigation and adaptation climate change policy cuts across all sectors of the economy and broader national priorities, such as poverty alleviation, sustainable development and economic growth. This paper outlines the evolution of the low-emission development strategies (LEDS) concept in the climate policy discourse and explores the existing strategies, action plans and documents.
This report presents early research from a collaboration of Canadian and African researchers. It covers conflict prevention and resolution, migration, energy, health and food security. Recommendations made include calls for action at the national, regional and global levels. At the national level, increased awareness of development implications of climate and the building of climate change knowledge and capacity are recommended. Regionally, a coordinated and common African position is advocated.
This report is a major outcome of the "WRITESHOP" held 21-24 February 2007 in Dakar, Senegal with its focus on adaptation measures required in response to climate variability and change for water management in West Africa.
