As part of a global network of individuals and organisations working to advance gender equality, women’s rights, dignity and empowerment in development, we advocate for the crucial importance of a gender perspective in efforts to reduce poverty and promote social justice. BRIDGE is committed to making multilingual gender knowledge accessible outside the research community and to building bridges and dialogue between researchers, policy-makers and practitioners.

    This joint country gender assessment, launched in October 2007, was led by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with cooperation from the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the European Commission (EC), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

    This in-depth case study on national-level gender and climate change finance in the Philippines maps the close connections between climate change, agriculture and rural poverty as a way to better understand the gender dimensions of climate financing. The study documents the effects of climate change on Filipina women and assesses decision-making at the national level regarding gender roles and women’s rights in climate finance policy.

    How does the World Trade Organization's (WTO) Agreement on Agriculture (AOA) affect the livelihoods of rural women in Asia? This paper, prepared on the occasion of the WTO-AOA review in 2003, analyzes the impact of the new trading rules imposed by the WTO on Asian peasants. It illustrates the inherent imbalances in the WTO-AOA's trade liberalisation policies which, among other things, flood local markets with highly subsidized agricultural imports from developed countries to the detriment of domestic agriculture.

    How can local environmental communication campaigns address gender differences in environmental knowledge, attitudes and behaviours' This report is based on information gathered on local government unit officials, local leaders and community members in three provinces in the Philippines. It aims to provide gender-related input into pilot environmental communication campaigns being planned at the local level in conjunction with other USAID- funded natural resource management projects.
